Back!

Hiatus over, I’m finally back! Back from a trip over the ditch, where my best friend Nana and I spent a week in the cultural capital of Oz, Melbourne. From the many cool bars, fancy restaurants, banging clubs to the countless lane ways coated in colourful art and streets upon streets to full fill every shopping fantasy, Melbourne is a must see. Now to break away from sounding like a travel brochure here is some fatty fashion and other pic’s of interest.

Day 4

I visited Myer for the first time, the equivalent of New Zealand’s Smith & Caugheys. I was actually amazed that they carried quite a few Plus size labels, the only down side was that they were aimed at a much older demographic. As if to say that the only fat people in existence are those in their 40s and 50s. But among all the tent tunics, ankle length skirts and asymmetrical shirts with their mix of floral print and solid block colours (very popular with the 50+ crowd) was this dress/smock/shirt-dress thing. The touch of it was like the love child of silk in suede and it was a piece that could cross many different styles- military, safari, rock etc. Of course I had to play dress up and feel what $159.99 dress felt like and boy it was goooood, but of course play time had to come to an end. As lovely as it was, to me it wasn’t that special enough to justify that price but I will always hold dear, the memories and these photos of our time together.

Rugby Rules!

As the Rugby World Cup draws nearer, New Zealand’s national sport becomes its own religion. Me, personally, I am not a devotee, hardly a subscriber to the sport that has its grass roots firmly planted in this country’s soil. But with all this national pride in hosting such an event, eventually the non-believers are swayed to visit the church of rugby. Like mass, Eden Park’s stadium is filled with loyal followers, dressed in their supportive best, illuminated in the (night) lights, ready to worship their gods- rugby players. Each player at the pinnacle of physical perfection, admired by many, a stature unattainable by most. As service begins, the crowds sing their praise; they appear upon the grassy field to prove their divinity to their congregation. Ok enough with the analogy, I’m not much of a writer and that took a lot of brain cells to write. Basically went to watch a rugby game, The Warriors against some Australian team and The Warriors lost- no surprise (no offence). I rocked a huge mans shirt, which was the perfect length to give me coverage over the ass and belly area (my version of a shirt dress). The use of safety pins although (to me anyway) are a cool punk detailing, was used to tailor the top. Gathering at the back and at the bust helped defined the waist and bust line to avoid the boxy shape that comes with wearing men’s wear. A Gok moment- altering clothes to suit you but without the effort of actually sewing!

Floral Kisses on St. Patz Day

Yesterday was not only St.Pats day, day of binge drinking, but also my dear friend Suga’s 24^th birthday. To celebrate we all went to La Porchetta, a pizza and pasta joint in the heart of the bar and restaurant region in Parnell. So while the others were bingeing on alcohol, we were pigging out on the pizzas. I decided to wear my Op shop skirt I had brought when I sported the Black and Yellow outfit in my last post and break in my lil clutch (also thrift, brought the same day). As it was St. Pats day, it seemed only mandatory to wear green, but all I had was a scarf, so I placed it in a predominate place- on top of my head. As all chicks know, you can never bring too much shit when you’re out on the town, but I had to ditch the camera at home as there was no room. So these pic’s were taken before hand, hence the shitty angles and messy backdrop of my room but you get the gist of the outfit.

Black & Yellow

 

So black and yellow pretty much sums up this post in a whole, but I’m not finished writing. It was a hot, hot day and as I look at the pic’s that my friend Tia took, I see that my inner bumble bee come out to play. This is what I would call my uniform for when I go Op shopping. The tights serve as a modesty layer for when I basically strip in the middle of the store to try something on. Sometimes it’s just quicker to try it on then and there –well dude, I’m just too lazi to bother! The singlet is thin and again you can try dresses and tops over it while not giving everyone in the store a free “show”. The yellow top over it is such a flash back to the late 80s, early 90s (which my fashion taste buds have taken a liken to) but its a bit disconcerting when my mum likes something that I’m wearing. I mean I’m weird, I admit, but her sense is just off so what am I to think about my Buzzy bee top?  Ehh.... maybe we share this one item, I’ll see it as a cross generational top, suitz all ages and sizes!

I wore this to a lunch date with my dear friend Suga, whom I had not seen in what feels like forever. So, because I like dressing up when I see my mates I whipped out the red lippy. I must say there is something somewhat seductive about wearing red lip stick even when you’re dressed casual. Match that with my black rimmed ‘Harry Potter’ glasses; both the red and black are quite striking- especially on my pale ass face. I will be rocking a lot of glasses this autumn/winter season, feel like I need to facially accessorise and no better place to do it then the dollar stores. Why pay full price for trend items that will become passé in a few months, when for $3.90 I can have the look but not the guilt when I no longer wear it. That’s just me I guess. . .
