Fat day

It’s weird how thin people will say their having a fat day where for a fat person, everyday is a fat day. Well you would think that wouldn’t you, but there are days where I don’t feel like I am the size that I am. But today wasn’t one of those days, I felt like a beached whale. Maybe it was the events of the weekend, the indulgence of a few cocktails, lack of sleep, or simply waking up on the wrong side of the bed. Whatever the reason, it’s easy to fall into the trap of cutting social commitments to hide out at home. While in the past I have been guilty of doing just that, I sucked in the gut and got dressed to go out to eat with a mate. The best thing to do when you feel your size and then some, is to dress more for comfort than for fashion. Not to say that the two can’t go hand in hand, but I found that confidence is the best accessory to any outfit and if you’re feeling self conscious, naturally want to cover up. My solution was to wear loose and in layers- my skirt turned strapless dress skimmed over everything, a belt help define my waist and held in place my drape front cardigan and the tights were protection against the parachute behaviour of my skirt.

Toga!

Last night I attended my cousin Sina’s 21st birthday. As most 21st’s I’ve attended it was a themed party in which guests were asked to dress in Roman costumes. I had nothing remotely Romanesque in my closet but lucky enough I had just finished sewing a new poncho dress that would suit the occasion. Chuck a belt at the waist, slip on some gold accessories and toga it up for the night.

Lost Boys

As the title puts it, I was channelling a bit of the 1987 film ‘The Lost Boys’. The glasses I was sporting was in fact Le Specs own version of the iconic frames seen throughout the movie and was appropriately named after it. The top is one of my favourite items in my closet and is the most comfortable thing to wear when shopping. Easy to whip on and off in the changing room (or in the middle of the store) and wont cling especially when you’re walking around in the summer sun. I got heaps of compliments on the shirt which alone looks like ‘mums closet rejects’ but styled with accessories I aimed for 80s rock. This proves that you can’t always judge an item strait off the rack.
