How many X's?

In the words of Tofiga Fepulea’i, from Laughing with Samoans, ‘I represent all the X’s before the L’s and what better way to demonstrate this then to wear the biggest shirt I own, nuff said!

Teachers Skirt

This top is perfect for summer, light coloured and sheer! I had brought the top on my birthday back in October, from the local Red Cross store. And Happy Birthday to me, all their plus size racks were half price making my top only $2! My skirt is a kick back to the 90’s, more specifically to the fashion of my primary school teachers. Although that would be a cringe factor for most, I find myself attracted to the old and mostly unusual. As the saying goes, one man’s junk is another man’s treasure and to me the best treasures are found at Op shops.

Crochet Poncho

This crochet poncho was a Xmas gift many years ago and it had been 3years since I last wore it. Even though the trend had come and gone I still hung on to it, with the intention of wearing it ‘one day’. So what better way to put truth to the hoarder’s popular belief and actually wearing it ‘one day’ -that being last Saturday. Unlike other fat fashion bloggers who have embraced their bodies and flaunt their lusciousness, I admittedly still struggle from time to time, being in my own skin. Case in point my arms, aka my bat wings. I loathe them and so I cover them. If I wear a singlet or a top with sleeves that are too short for my liking, on goes a second shirt or a cardigan, jumper or jacket. Now I’m well insulated as it is, then you add summer to the mix with that extra layer covering the wings and I’m sweating balls! So to my delight, my debut of my poncho is like an unveiling for my upper arms to the world. It’s the closest to wearing nothing but it has the feeling of being covered which is comforting. Now I look forward to wearing singlet’s as I have another arm covering option available. I know it would be better to go totally nude on the arm front, but Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither is conquering one’s body fear in single moment. So for now, my arms get to relish in the rays of the sun and flap in the summer breeze under the security of a crochet web.
